Meet the Fi Europe Innovation Awards Jury

The Fi Europe Innovation Awards are judged each year by will be assessed by an esteemed jury of industry professionals.

It is with great pleasure that we wish to introduce you to our jury.

Prof. Colin Dennis has had a distinguished career, holding positions in industrial, government and academic institutions, including 21 years as CEO of CampdenBRI. His leadership qualities and knowledge of food science and technology led to his appointment on government and industry advisory committees in the UK, Belgium, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, South Africa and Singapore.

He is a Honorary Fellow and Past President of IFST, a Fellow and Past President of IFT, a Fellow of the International Academy of Food Science & Technology and is currently the Chair of the Board of Trustees of IFIS Ltd and the Immediate Past Chair of the British Nutrition Foundation.

Dr. Sandra Einerhand is the founder and head of Einerhand Science & Innovation, an award winning nutrition consultancy providing solutions to the food and dietary supplements industry. Throughout her career Sandra has focused on scientifically substantiating health benefits of food and food ingredients. She has more than 25 years’ experience in the area of infant, senior and medical nutrition, first while working as associate professor in academia and thereafter as R&D director working for Tate&Lyle ingredients, Lipid nutrition and Danone Nutricia.

In 2020, her company Einerhand Science & innovation won the Luxlife Food and Drink award for being the best European Early Life Nutrition Consultancy. In 2021, Sandra received the Nutrachampion Award and Go Global Award recognizing her science as well as business-oriented capabilities and expertise. Sandra also chairs the Nutrition Consultants Cooperative (NCC) and works as fellow for Presans, a Paris-based service provider in high-end open innovation. Previously, Sandra worked for Danone Nutricia Research, Tate & Lyle Ingredients and Lipid Nutrition as Scientific Program Director and Nutrition & Health Director. During the first part of her career, Sandra worked as associate professor at the Erasmus MC in Rotterdam. Sandra studied Chemistry in Amsterdam and has a PhD in Medicine. Ian Healey has been Editor of Food Marketing & Technology for over 30 years and founding Editor of drinkworld since 1997, as well as PetFood PRO since 2019. The magazines specialise in presenting food ingredients and technology from a marketing perspective in a unique reader-friendly style. Ian grew up in the UK and has lived in Germany for many years. He has travelled widely, attending the Fi Europe & Hi Europe events every year, as well as other exhibitions on the packaging and processing side of things.

Dr. V. Krishnakumar’s early work experience was in consumer marketing – first in McCann Erickson Advertising and later as Product Manager at what is currently known as GlaxoSmithKline. He then joined Giract, the foremost food
ingredients and technologies market research and forecasting business consultancy in Geneva, Switzerland, where he is now the Managing Director. He has published many articles on the global food and food ingredients markets,
chaired and addressed various international conferences and moderated large panel discussions.

Efi Leontopoulou is a food bioengineer with a Master’s degree in marketing and an MBA. She has 20 years’ work experience at EAS Strategies and advises clients on gaining approval for their foods and ingredients and on developing regulatory strategies with food companies to run alongside their marketing programmes.

Rosemary Maguire has been actively involved in the South African Food Industry in the
area of flavours, ingredients and product development for over 30 years. Her company, In Essence, represents and works with a number of international suppliers and has a client base that reflects the diversity of their product
range. She has been President of SAAFoST (2007-2010) a Member of IUFoST Governing Council (2014-2018) and is an Honorary life member of SAAFoST.

Mike Adams is the Head of Product Innovation within the Consulting Technology Group at Campden BRI, supporting a wide range of companies within the food and drink industry, providing innovation services, research, analysis and testing, and has been at Campden BRI since 2016. He studied for a BSc (Hons) in Microbiology at the University of Manchester, graduating in 2005, and has worked primarily within R&D and Technical roles for multinational FMCG
organisations. Mike’s areas of interest include plant protein; the linking of instrumental measurements to sensory profiling; the discovery of new functional ingredients and extending the shelf life of foods. 

Nick Henson is a hands-on NPD practitioner, originally trained as a Food Scientist at the
University of Reading, with over 35 years of experience within product development in the food industry, including branded manufacturing (ABF, RHM/Premier, Kraft Foods), the flavour industry (Firmenich, IFF) and contract
product development (International Food Network).

Nick has broad cross-category experience with an emphasis on health and nutrition, having been directly involved in the early developments of Quorn Mycoprotein, one of the first EU Health Claim-based range Benecol for cholesterol control and the European introduction and expansion of the SlimFast weight management range.

Nick has come full circle and is an industry representative on the University of Reading Food Biosciences NPD module judging panel.

 

João Brites is Director of Growth & Innovation at HowGood, a SaaS platform that helps food and agricultural companies measure, improve and report their social and environmental impact.

Prior to HowGood, João served as Global Director of Sustainable Development at AB InBev and was a co-founder of award-winning impact ventures, including Movimento Transformers, the Amazon Summer School and Carbono Biodiverso.

João is the recipient of Nova's Impactful Alumni Award, the Do Something Ambassador Award, and was at age 19 one of the world's youngest participants at the World Economic Forum in Davos through the Global Changemakers Program.

João holds a M.S. in Economics and a CEMS Masters in International Management from Nova SBE, and serves on the boards of SOCIALinNOVA-HUB ERA Chair and Livelab.


João lives in Brazil, and is also a breakdancer, recreational scuba diver and small-scale agroforestry coffee farmer.
