Title: Panel discussion: Tackling misinformation around F&B: how to ensure objective analysis wins
Synopsis:
Access to information is easier than ever and today’s consumers are arming themselves with facts about the food they eat and the impact this will have on their health. But with so many sources of information, many of which conflict, it can be hard to separate fact from fiction. This misinformation can create fear and confusion which easily overshadow objective analysis, creating a huge challenge for the F&B industry as consumers no longer know who to trust.

  • What should the F&B industry be doing to better communicate with consumers?
  • Where does the responsibility for educating consumers about food and health lie?
  • What impact does the mainstream media have on influencing consumers?
  • How are influencers and bloggers changing the way consumers view the traditional F&B industry? Should F&B companies be working with them, or against them?
  • How can the F&B industry challenge less credible sources of information?

Moderator: Bertrand Emond, Chair, IFT – British Section
Panellists:

  • Jeff Hilton, Co-founder and CEO, BrandHive
  • Paul Tenning, Director of Regulatory Affairs -EMEA, DuPont
  • Joachim Muller-Jung, Science Editor, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung
