Sarah Dowding, Senior Regulatory Affairs Specialist, Nestlé - UK
Sarah Dowding is the Regulatory Partner to Nestlé UK's food, food service, cereal and world food business divisions. This includes working on all aspects of NPD, product compliance, and inputting to market launches of some well-loved household brands. Prior to Nestlé, Sarah worked at the Food and Drink Federation (FDF) in the Scientific Affairs Division. Her specialist area was food ingredients and additives, working to promote members' views to a wide range of UK and EU stakeholders. Sarah will be responding to regulatory uncertainties around clean labelling at the FiE Conference.
Parag Acharya, Research Manager, Unilever - Netherlands
Parag Acharya has over seven years of experience in successfully delivering multi-disciplinary scientific projects for biotechnology and FMCG industries to cater the innovation driven product development. He also possess over seven years of academic research experience in biochemistry, analytical & natural product chemistry. His current interest lies on R&D management by enabling cross-talk between multi-disciplinary science & technologies as well as successfully translating these into innovation opportunities within the business needs. The FiE Official Conference will see Parag presenting brand new exploratory studies conducted by Unilever Research into novel processing techniques and their effects on flavour quality.
Isabella Van Damme, Material Science Programme Manager, Mars Chocolate - UK
Isabella Van Damme is the Material Science Programme Manager at Mars Chocolate, UK. As a chemist, she has carried out research in the R&D departments of several major confectionery companies and gained extensive expertise in the scientific aspects of chocolate behaviour. Her main focus is now on developing novel materials for applications in confectionery. Isabella is delighted to share her knowledge on alternative technologies and ingredients to reduce fat and calories in F&B products.
Prof. Dr. Hans Verhagen, member of EFSA NDA Panel - The Netherlands
Prof. Dr. Hans Verhagen has been a member of the EFSA-NDA panel since July 2006. He studied chemistry at the Universities of Nijmegen and Paris and did his PhD on food toxicology at the University of Maastricht. Having previously worked at the TNO Nutrition and Food Research Institute and Unilever, he is now employed at the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM). Current scientific interests are substantiation of health claims, novel foods, nutritional safety, food fortification, biomarkers, food reformulation and antioxidants, making him the perfect candidate to discuss the current state of antioxidants: opportunities and limitations.
Tania Porsgaard Bayer, Regulatory Affairs Consultant, Global Trade Policy & Regulatory Affairs, Global Categories and Operations, Arla Foods - Denmark
Tania Porsgaard Bayer holds a position as Regulatory Affairs Consultant in Arla Foods' Global Trade Policy Regulatory Affairs department and has a special focus on health claims, novel foods and labelling. She has a masters degree in molecular biology in combination with law school. Tania is well-equipped to present her experiences with health claims in F B at the FiE Conference.
Claire Hughes, Nutritionist, Marks & Spencer – UK
Helen Stevenson has over 6 year's industry experience and as a Nutritionist at Marks and Spencer her primary role is the implementation of the Marks and Spencer healthy strategy. Helen is responsible for driving the salt reformulation project working across all food and drink categories and engages with external stakeholders and research groups across the varying areas of nutrition and health. Graduated with a 1st class BSc Honours degree in Nutrition from the University of Surrey, Helen has worked in both the retail and manufacturing industry with a continued focus on health. Claire is excited to present her experience of overcoming challenges to achieve government salt reduction targets.
Victor Aigbogun, Head of Product Development, Almarai - Saudi Arabia
Victor Aigbogun is a food scientist with more than 25 years in product development. His experience spans dairy and beverage, desserts and ready-to-eat prepared food. He is currently General Manager of Almarai Company, the largest dairy company in the Middle East. Victor will give his expert insights into the science and the market of developing indulgent dairy products to tap into growing consumer trends for luxury.
Dr Muyiwa Akintoye, Head of a Research and Development, Quorn Foods
Dr Muyiwa Akintoye is trained as a Food Technologists and is currently Head of Research and Development with Quorn Foods. He has gained experience over the years in Food Research and Food Manufacture methods in areas as diverse as canning, breakfast cereals, brewing, dairy etc. He obtained his PhD from the University of Leeds and has been with Quorn Foods since 1993. He has responsibility for establishing and progressing R&D programs and activities that are business value enhancing. These include projects that enable the assessment of new ingredients with particular emphasis on identifying & implementing significant cost saving opportunities, evaluating and developing new innovative processes for the manufacture of meat free products under the Quorn brand and sensory & consumer research responsibilities. Muyiwa will be presenting key insights into how Quorn Foods addressed the subject of natural flavours for the Quorn range and how they went about doing it with their suppliers.
Jacob Thundil, Founder, Cocofina – UK
Jacob Thundil founded Cocofina, the leading European brand of coconut water, in 2005. He will be talking about innovation with natural ingredients, overcoming flavour, formulation and packaging challenges, and discussing the supply and cost of raw ingredients. He will also be assessing target consumers, marketing communications and pricing strategies for natural beverage products such as coconut water.
